About C.I.- CAN

Our Mission

The C.I.-CAN Mission is to inspire economic growth in both Sub-Saharan Africa, and in minority and disadvantaged communities here in the United states.  Our plan to achieve this will be through initiating focused Capacity Building and Infrastructure Development projects targeted in grass-roots areas and villages in sub- Saharan Africa.  We have selected Ghana, West Africa to be the first country to begin our efforts.  Our goal will be to provide hands-on exchanges of skills, knowledge, and entreprenuriship needed to development, process, and market village resources.  Success at this will be a major step towards, job creation, poverty eradication, and self determination in Ghana.

 

However, the C.I.-CAN mission doesn't stop there.  Incorporated in our efforts are the creation of business partnerships and connectivity to END-USERS over here in the states.  End-Users are the small and disadvantaged businesses here in the states that would be able to benefit from the processing and importing of affordable products manufactured and/or processed in Sub-Saharan Africa.  This business connectivity will create new and viable markets for small businesses that will significantly enhance their business development, growth, and ultimate bottom line.  Such small business growth and development is the major driver for job creation, poverty eradication and self determination for disadvantaged communities here in the states.

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

 

Craig Norman is the President and Chairman of the Board of the Coalition for Infrastructure development and Capacity building in African Nations (C.I.– CAN). President and CEO of C.A.Norman Enterprises ( a professional holding company) which includes Inside Africa Designs, The C.A.Norman Group Inc., and C.A.Norman Limited (Ghana).    

 

Craig served as both a Peace Corps Volunteer and Volunteer leader in Ghana West Africa 1998 – 2000.  While in Peace Corps Craig served in the Small Enterprise Development sector before he was promoted to Peace Corps Volunteer Leader.  Also while serving as PCVL Craig was a facilitator for Peace Corps Ghana’s Diversity Training sessions along with organizing the West African/African American Peace Corps Volunteer Summit in Accra, Ghana.   

 

Craig is a licensed Real Estate Broker and has over 30 years of professional experience in Land and Business development in the U.S. and abroad.  Some of the most exciting international projects that Craig has undertake has been the; Preliminary design of a Government office in Cameroon, Africa and business development consulting on a 150 acre Rubber Tree and Cashew farm in Liberia, Africa.  Currently Craig’s company “C.A.Norman Limited, Ghana” has resumed work on Stadium View Estates, a master planned, mixed-use Residential and Commercial land development project.

 

Craig has a BS in Urban Planning and a MBA (Finance).  Craig has also been named to “Who’s Who in Business”, and has served as a Director of San Diego’s Southeast Economic Development Corporation.

 

 

VICE-CHAIRMAN
 
Marlon Hite is an experienced Project Manager with a hyper focus toward process review and improvement. I execute complex tasks while demonstrating a high level of competence and professionalism. I work with a diverse group of individuals, !nd consensus and accomplish de!ned tasks within a set time frame. My international experience includes humanitarian relief, administrative management of large US Government funded projects, micro and macro business consulting. My domestic experience includes project management activities, learning and development facilitation, requirements gathering, participation in and analysis of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
 

DIRECTOR

 

Dr. Ahmses Maat is a Registered Respiratory Therapist, Certified Clinical Perfusionist on an open heart team and Doctorate of Metaphysics. Dr. Maat is a 2004 Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee, a World Games Gold Medalist with a 5th degree Black Belt. He’s a co-founder of African Defense at Montu University where he provides workshops, classes and courses on self-defense and Egyptian Tai Chi Instruction. He’s also President of TaMeri, Inc., a health service company that specializes in wellness in which Maat Thermal Therapy is held as intellectual property and its useful process is being used holistically. Trans Cranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) – A non-invasive, long term relief of resistant depression without medicines, Rapid Detox – A guaranteed method for complete detoxification from opioids, cocaine and methamphetamines without the harsh rigors of withdrawals in 3 days. DIRECTOR

 

Behzad Roohi is a community development expert with over 15 years of experience in International Development. He has work experience in various sectors including conflict resolution, governance, youth/sports development, small business development, agriculture and recruitment. Behzad is a fluent Farsi speaker and has lived in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean and has a deep cultural and historical knowledge of the areas.

Behzad has worked with Peace Corps, USAID, IOM, George Washington University, SAIC, and the US and the Italian Military among others.  

Mr.Roohi holds a BA in International Affairs with focus on Africa from the George Washington University and an MS in Peace Operations Policy from George Mason University.

 

DIRECTOR

 

Kevin Baker is an experienced professional with more than 25 years of success as a K-12 and post-secondary education administrator, counselor, and instructor. Currently he serves as the Talent Search Director at Mt. San Jacinto College in Southwest Riverside County. He is responsible for the administration of the federally funded educational opportunity program for low income, first generation students from middle and high schools in the San Jacinto Unified School District.

He previously served as the Business/Community Liaison with the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools were he assisted in the development and implementation of education and workforce development systems, and events in support of the Alliance for Education program. He was responsible for the development of business partnerships for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs middle school through post-secondary.

Prior to joining the county schools office, he worked in the post-secondary arena as a counselor and teacher for UC Irvine, Cal State San Bernardino and Riverside Community College District.

He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology from the University of California San Diego, a Master’s degree in Educational Counseling from California State University San Bernardino, and is a Doctoral Candidate in Organizational Leadership at Brandman University.

DIRECTOR
 
Erick Jones is an international business and finance professional with more than 30 years experience in the African market. He started his professional career as a banker with a major New York City bank covering French and English speaking West and Central Africa. He later joined ABB, a major global engineering company based in Zurich, Switzerland where he structured project financing proposals in support of large energy and power projects in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. In this role, Mr Jones developed financing proposals in support of projects valued at more than $3 billion. While with ABB he moved to Ghana, West Africa, as the company’s first Managing Director establishing a start-up business in this growing market for them. A5er leaving ABB, he remained in Ghana and became the Deputy Director for Administration and Finance for an international NGO responsible for implementing the U.S. State Department’s Refugee Rese9lement program. In this capacity Mr Jones was able to travel extensively in the West Africa region and became intimately familiar with the region’s developing political environment and economic conditions and potential. Mr Jones currently works as an independent financial advisor and holds a State of Georgia life insurance license and FINRA Series 6 & 63 securities licenses.Mr Jones holds a Master’s degree in International Economics from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Austin College, Sherman, Texas.

 

DIRECTOR

 

Leary Jones has been named senior director of safety, health and environmental for the Southwest California Division of Balfour Beatty Construction Services US and will over see the operations of the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE)these departments. Leary Jones brings with him 326 years of safety/risk management experience in the construction, industrial, refinery, military and aviation industries. Most recently, Leary Jones served as the regional safety director for Turner Construction where he oversaw the environmental, health and safety programs throughout the west coast, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Mexico. Prior to that, he served as a safety manager and technician for numerous Air Force Bases throughout the world and taught courses for the Air Force’s Safety Technical School at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colo. Leary

attended Southern Illinois University where he studied Industrial Technology and also received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Safety Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. Leary is a certified Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Construction Manager In-Training (CMIT) and has obtained numerous safety, health and environmental related training and certifications.
